On the website, Charly Moore, the founder, and CEO of Rocket Law says he believes that legal services should be fair and affordable to all.
Rocket Lawyer is a high profile company that’s been featured on CNBC, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Forbes, and Fox News.
The company helps a high volume of customers which could be a good sign… or a bad sign.
When a company gets too big and successful, it can compromise the quality of services.
We’ve checked the company out and this is our take on things.
Rocket Lawyer Packages
Rocket Lawyer‘s website is not transparent.
It does not structure its pricing structure transparently like other LLC start-up companies. To determine costs you must enter your personal details (which probably get sold to third parties) before you get an idea of costs.
You are forced to either select their Registered Agent service for $149 before proceeding to the next step of the quote inquiry. If you don’t select this service you must provide the details of a third-party registered agent.
Only once you’ve provided this information will they give you a quote that is completely customized.
The final quote is confusing, complicated, and downright annoying!
The order summary includes:
Premium monthly trial of $0.00. We assume that after one month your account will be debited on an ongoing monthly basis. This is not made explicitly clear.
This would explain why the state fees are listed as free of charge. Other LLC start-up companies clearly state a flat fee excluding state fees.
The business incorporation business is listed as $99.99. We assume this figure applies to all LLC formations, but who knows? You only know costs for your situation so you have no idea how it compares to other scenarios unless you go through the tedious quotation process and enter your details all over again.
The small print that accompanies the order summary explains that you receive a ‘membership’ of $39.99 a month.

What Is Rocket Lawyer Customer Service Like?
Judging by the quotation process, it appears that this is the type of company that would have you waiting in a phone queue, and having to explain yourself every time you ring up for support.
This is the issue when a company gets too big. Service becomes impersonal. To them, you’re just a number and you treat their spiel that your custom matters to them with cautious distrust.

I have emailed our support specialist, I have emailed the incorporation email, I have sent a general inquiry and I have called. I still cannot get any update as to where my company is at. I have tried to cancel the service, but they already have my money, so they apparently don’t care.”

I created an NDA agreement, filled out all the information, and then it asks me to create an account to access my document. Fine, I give them my email, create an account, and it then asks me for a credit card?!
If you need a credit card to even try your service, please be upfront about that. Wasted my time, took my email, and didn’t even give me access to the document I was trying to create in the first place!

When I try and login it says my password is incorrect, I have tried to get a password reset and nothing is coming through. Do NOT trust the free trial as they will still charge you and lock your account.”

I challenged this and, although they could see I had not once accessed a document outside the trial period, they refused to refund my money. Avoid the free trial.
This is a belated review because I am astonished the company survived with this level of customer support. I would otherwise perhaps have used them again.“
